Meet the Instructors

Heather Brown - Artistic Director

D.M.A., Ballet; Licentiate C.D.T.A., Ballet & Stage (Tap & Jazz) Divisions; A.A.C.1

Heather is a Member of the Dance Masters of America Association Chapter #8, a Licentiate of the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association in both Stage (Tap & Jazz) and Ballet Divisions and is Acrobatic Arts Certified. In June of 2019, she completed the certification course by Progressing Ballet Technique. Heather has served on the Stage, Ballet and Executive Committees for the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association – Ontario Branch, and is a member of Dance Ontario. She has been dancing for over 30 years studying ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, hip-hop, musical theatre and contemporary. She has competed in these disciplines across Canada and the United States and was “World Champion” at the IDO competition in Boston. Heather also attended Niagara District Secondary School and received her “DNA Arts Certificate”. She has participated in community performances such as “Guys and Dolls” with Garden City Productions and “Wonderland” with Fascination Dance Studio. She was the choreographer for Something-Something Productions, doing choreography for the “Rocky Horror Show” and “Rock of Ages” at Corks Winebar and Restaurant in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Heather has been on the Board of Directors for the Port Colborne Operatic Society as Choreographer for the shows “Once Upon a Mattress” and “Mamma Mia!” She has also taught classes for United Way, District School Board of Niagara and various dance studios in the Niagara Region as well. Heather continues her dance training by taking lessons and attending workshops in Canada and in the United States, including classes at New York City’s “Broadway Dance Center.” Heather is excited to share her love and knowledge of dance with our students year after year.

Kilby Dickinson

Former Ballerina, L’Opera Royal de Wallonie

Kilby Dickinson is an Advanced Certificate holder from The Royal Academy of Dancing, London England. She danced as a student with Les Grand Ballet Canadians for three years, before moving to Belgium. In Belgium, she accepted a position with L’Opera Royal de Wallonie as a Classical Ballet Dancer and danced professionally with the company until she retired after 17 years. We feel very fortunate to have Miss Dickinson as a member of our team, as she shares her 17 years of experience dancing professionally with our students, bringing unique professional choreographic works to our stage for the enjoyment of our audiences.

Heather Kendell

BRLS; BFA; LCSC-CICB; Licentiate CDTA; Certificate in Health and Fitness; RYT 200; Pilates Level 1: Mat; Enrico Cecchetti Final Diploma

Heather is originally from Ontario, where she received her initial dance training. Heather performed with local ballet company, Danse Elite, as first soloist and member of the corps de ballet in the company’s production of The Nutcracker and was a guest performer in the Niagara Symphony children’s production, Garfield.

Prior to leaving Ontario, Heather received a Bachelor of Recreation and Leisure Studies degree from Brock University (1997), then moved to British Columbia to continue her dance training and post-secondary education at Simon Fraser University (SFU). She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, with a major in Dance and minor in Kinesiology (2002), as well as a Certificate in Health and Fitness (2002) from SFU.

Heather attained her Associate status with ISTD, Cecchetti Branch in 2005 and was granted top honours by receiving a “pass with distinction”. In 2006 she received her Associate Diploma status and in 2012 attained her Licentiate status with the Cecchetti Society of Canada. In 2019, Heather successfully attained the Enrico Cecchetti Final Diploma. She has her Licentiate membership in the Ballet and Modern Divisions CDTA, BC Branch.

Heather continues to upgrade, and seeks to diversify, her teaching certifications. She has completed a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training program and is a registered instructor with Yoga Alliance. Heather has completed a 20-hour Yin Yoga teacher-training program as well as a 20-hour Restorative Yoga teacher-training program. She is a certified Pilates Level 1: Mat instructor through Body Harmonics and has completed certificates in Gait Analysis, SI Joint: The Critical Functional Link and Self-care Strategies for Jaw Pain. She completed the PBT (Progressing Ballet Technique) Teacher Training Certification Program as well as received certificates from Allegro Performance & Wellness, including Module 1: Healthy Dance Practice and Injury Management for Dance Teachers and Module 2: Training Flexibility Safely.

Heather has served on the executive boards of various dance organizations. She volunteered as a member of the Katherine Labelle Dance Society, which became Modus Dance, the Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association, BC Branch and the National CDTA Modern and Ballet Committees. During that time, Heather had the honour of being a BC Representative at the National CDTA ballet syllabus meetings and took part in the development of the National CDTA Ballet Examination Syllabus. Heather also served as the Secretary for the Cecchetti Canada BC Committee.
Heather was responsible for proposing, implementing and developing the Modern Division of the CDTA BC Branch, which then led to the development of similar divisions across Canada. As the Modern Division Chairperson for CDTA, BC Branch she wrote the Professional Membership Examination requirements for the Modern Division. Heather also wrote the Junior Modern Examination Syllabus and a portion of the Senior Syllabus for students studying modern dance, which is now being used Nationally by the CDTA. She was the National CDTA Modern Consultant for 2 years. Heather was also a Ballet and Modern Examiner for CDTA but resigned in 2014 to focus on teaching.

Heather gained ample performance experience by working with Danse Elite, Off Centre Performance Company, The Company Experience, Ballet du Printemps and CollabArt Creations. She performed in works by Shannon McMurchy, Claire French, Sylvain Brochu, Santa Aloi and Cheryl Prophet. She has had much success with her former company, DansArts et al., and now Inertia Dance Co.

Heather has 20+ years experience as a well-respected dance instructor responsible for developing strong, artistic young dancers in a kinesthetically appropriate manner. Many of her students have been accepted into professional training institutions, gone on to perform professionally and have even become dance instructors.

Hailey Davis

Pre-Associate C.D.T.A., Stage (Jazz) Division

Hailey is a new face on the faculty team here at Dance Expressions. Hailey began her training at the young age of 4. She competed and trained for over 15 years in many dance styles including Tap, Jazz, Ballet, Hip-Hop, Acro, Lyrical and Modern. She has also been involved in many community performances including “Wonderland” with Fascination Dance studio. After a small break from dance to start a family, Hailey rejoined the dance community by taking pride in being a part of teaching our youngest dancers along with their guardians in our “Mommy/Daddy and Me” classes. In the summer of 2021, Hailey completed the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association’s Teacher Training School to work towards her Associate Membership in the Stage (Jazz) Division and awarded, by examination, her Pre-Associate status.

Morgan Proulx

Pre-Associate C.D.T.A., Stage (Jazz) Division

Morgan began dancing at Dance Expressions Inc. at the age of 3. At age 9, she become a member of the Pre-Professional Program “A” where she studied Ballet, Pointe, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Contemporary. She has completed all of her Ballet, Jazz and Tap Examinations through the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association. In 2017, Morgan was presented with the Scholarship for Senior Ballet, Lyrical or Pointe Soloist at the Port Colborne Festival of the Arts for her Pointe solo “Hallelujah”. Morgan actively participated in her dance classes and High School Dance Team where she took part in workshops, competitions and showcases. Morgan’s passion for dance recently brought her back to Dance Expressions Inc while participating in the Adult classes. In the summer of 2021, Morgan completed the Canadian Dance Teachers’ Association’s Teacher Training School to work towards her Associate Membership in the Stage (Jazz) Division and awarded, by examination, her Pre-Associate status. Morgan has also completed her final year in the Social Service Worker program. She is thrilled to be back at Dance Expressions Inc. where she hopes to inspire and share her love of dance with others.
